“Sparkle Rock” is a microgenre that explores the shimmering qualities of the distorted guitar. The upper register gets the limelight on this mini-album which creates a frenetic quality as if grunge were pitched up. The ethereal tones remain raucous as tinny cellphone drums pitter-patter in the background. 50s rock meets wallpaper of sound on “Clementine Choogle” while unexpected reggae rhythms pounce out on “Blackberry Baygall Babe”. The sensual is conjured with the evocation of fruit in the song titles calling for a citrused healing of sorts mirrored by the acerbic guitars. Even though the high notes uplift, a grunge sensibility persists that keeps the tunes in murky wetlands. In short, sparkle rock is feu follet as rock n’ roll.

Baltimore songstress Eyelashes! cut her teeth performing as Baggypantsrich in the 2010s under the microgenre of glam folk: sad melodies, a backbeat, and glam rock attitude. After a move to NOLA, she took on the name Eyelashes! Initially an experimental venture, glam found its way back in the mix after relocating to LA.
